The New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) system is currently being trialled with some sea travellers. The system allows travellers to complete a digital arrival declaration instead of a paper Passenger Arrival Card.
The NZTD is an online system that you can use to complete a travel declaration before travelling to, or returning to, New Zealand. It includes customs, immigration and biosecurity questions, as well as health risk assessments (if required).
The system is live for travellers arriving at airports in New Zealand. We are now testing the system at the maritime border.
If you are travelling on one of the following vessels, you can trial completing a digital declaration. Border officers will help you to do this when you arrive in New Zealand.
Vessels currently being trialled include:
- small craft
- cargo
- specialist
- fishing
- sovereign immunity
- New Zealand Defence Force military.
The trial will continue over the summer season until February 2024, to help border staff trial the system and test their processes.
If you are travelling on a cruise ship which is trialling the digital declaration, your cruise ship company will share information with you about the trial.
